Letter from the President: I have had a diverse career starting as a computer operator back in 1970. Through the years I have held positions as a programmer at a large manufacturer, programmer / analyst at a large bank, data processing manager at an Electric and Plumbing supply company, eleven years as a consultant for a Wang VAR and finally, as a corporate MIS Director for a national process manufacturer with forty-seven locations nationwide. This broad based background has allowed me to see many business processes, in many industries, and how to apply technology to make those processes more efficient and profitable for your company. At my last position as an employee, I was responsible for everything related to computers, including needs analysis, procurement, system analysis, programming, implementation and operations. I wasn't superman. I did have a good computer operator, a first-rate assistant and complete support from senior management. From time to time, I would hire a consultant for a specific project, either to complete something quicker or to obtain an expertise that we did not have in-house. Hiring consultants was a harrowing experience. Did they understand our business? Were they competent? Where was their allegiance? Would they do a good job? At the beginning of 1993, the company that I worked for was sold to an out of state company. I had the opportunity to go with them, find another job or risk everything and strike out on my own. I decided to stay in St. Louis and create the type of consulting company that I would want to hire. The first year was profitable. Each year has been more successful than the previous. What was another 'downsize/buyout' horror story of the 1990's turned out to be great for me and my clients. In 1997, as the internet started to explode, I started doing web design and hosting for existing clients. As the web has grown, so have my clients and KIS. Currently, I personally do 90% of the work that KIS does. I take 100% of the responsibility for all work done. This business is about relationships. Relationships mean teaming with other consultants when necessary to create a solution. At KIS, we are not looking for hundreds of new clients. We are looking for a select few to establish a long-term relationship that will be mutually beneficial to your company and mine. Dan King |
